Fire Department conducts training burn

 The Salem Township Fire Administrative Board would like to thank Johnson Controls, Inc. for allowing us to use a house and barn on their property for a training burn this past Saturday. The house provided the South Lyon FD, Pittsfield FD, Superior FD, Northville City FD, and Salem Township FD with invaluable training in residential fire situations. Approximately 60 firefighters worked in teams of 4-6 for each practical exercise. The structure was large enough to accommodate nearly 20 different scenarios giving fire teams practical experience in ventilation, fire attack and suppression, and rapid intervention. This type of experience not only develops stronger skills within each department, but also helps develop a greater inter-departmental cohesiveness that is necessary when multiple departments are used in a mutual aid situation. Once again, we would like to thank Johnson Controls Inc. and all of the participating communities for making the training burn a safe and educational experience for everyone involved.
