Salem Cemeteries

Salem-Walker Cemetery , so named for the well-known Walker family who at one time owned most of the surrounding land, is located on Angle Road and Tower Road, in section 9, two miles west of Salem.

Lapham Cemetery is located in section 26 of Brookville Road at the corner of Gotfredson Road. One of the oldest inscriptions is for Joseph Pinckney, born 1777, died in 1846.

Worden Cemetery is located in section 17 on Five Mile Road north of North Territorial Road near Pontiac Trail. Some of the names of the persons buried within are still remembered by local residents; names such as Thompson, Botsford, Cole, Hamilton, Peebles, Pratt Sober, and many others.

Other cemeteries

Thayer Cemetery is not in Salem Township, but just across the line in Wayne County at Six mile and Napier Road. Many of our Salem Township Residents are buried there.

Pray Cemetery, located on Plymouth Road in Superior Township. The land is part of the farm taken up by the Esex Pray family, one of our early settlers.
