Your Salem Township Treasurer
Paul J. Uherek is a 40 year resident of Salem Township. He spent his formative years studying in a parochial school. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University. After twenty-five years working in the private sector as a Chief Financial Officer he retired.
Paul is experienced in managing large investment and capital portfolios. He is a member of the Salem Area Historical Society and Salem Community Events Association. Paul enjoys a weekly game or two of chess, a good read, antiques and ornithology.
Paul’s vision for Salem Township is that it remain the relatively rural community that exists today. By investing township funds wisely, and with careful budgeting and preservation of current revenue streams Paul is committed to continue to levy no local tax for services.

Paul’s parents, Robert and Eugenia Uherek, taught him the importance of participating in our democracy and being involved in the community. Salem Township has always been the place he lives and calls home. Paul is honored to serve the residents of Salem as their Treasurer.
Some duties of the township treasurer
Collects real and personal property taxes
Keeps an account of township receipts (revenues) and expenditures
Disburses township checks
Deposits township revenues in approved depositories
Invests township funds in approved investment vehicles
Collects delinquent personal property tax
Responsible for jeopardy assessments in collecting delinquent personal property tax
Collects mobile home specific tax
Must appoint a deputy
Must post a surety bond
